Interpretation of the Chest X-Ray

Using the ABCDEFG approach I take you through the interpretation in this hour long Video.
You will be 'reading' them with much more confidence afterwards!

Let the fog clear....

I was that nurse many years ago working in a busy intensive care unit looking after the critically ill patient helping to get them better.
I performed many of the tasks required to the best of my ability and fell in love with my job!

However there were many things I did not understand and one of those was the Chest X-Ray. The doctors would peer at the film, holding it up to the light viewer (no computer images then) and say things like opacity and atelectasis. I had no clue what they were talking about.
So I scoured the books and the internet and taught myself. I started to understand what they were referring to and then became someone who could help diagnose and teach others the mysteries behind the Chest X-Ray.

With this lesson I can help you begin to move forward to doing the same.

What will we cover?

First we start with the technical aspects of the Chest X-Ray to make sure it is the right one and a good one.
Then we move onto the Airway, understanding what we should be looking for and why it might be abnormal.
The Bones are next. We need to examine them all and look for anything that should not be there.
The Cardiac silhouette will tell us a lot, the outline of th heart giving us some clues as to any pathologies that might be present and the same goes for the Diaphragm.
Next do we have Equal Lung Fields? If not, why not?
And finally we will look at the Gastric bubble.
That is the ABCDEFG approach in a nutshell.

 - these are great for anyone extending their practice, e.g. tACP, jACP, PA, junior Dr, Physiotherapist, etc. Get the basics of interpretation right and you’re made for life. Well worth the tiny fee. I fact I’m going to use them for some revision.
